Under Alan’s expert supervision, the KMP has been able to make numerous agreements with small family farms which espouse a philosophy equal to ours and have unrivaled products. This philosophy includes the following bedrock principles:
• All animals must be treated humanely, from birth through the shechita process.
• All farms must be regularly inspected to ensure that they are in compliance with all criteria listed here.
• All farms must have a strong ethos of sustainability, as well as demonstrated practices in support of such convictions.
• A land management plan must be in place.
• All farms must be family-run and, wherever possible, local.
• All feed must be free of animal byproducts.
• All of our humanely-raised specialty meats and poultry must be of exceptional quality & possess the highest caliber nutritional content, appearance, marbling, tenderness & taste.
THE SEMINAL IMPORTANCE OF SMALL FAMILY FARMS
At The Kosher Marketplace, we understand the great importance that small family farms play in our food chain. Farming families are highly responsible and concerned stewards of the land. Farming families generally live on or near their farms and tend to be very interwoven components of their local communities. As a result, they endeavor to protect their farms’ health and beauty not only for today but for future generations as well.
Family farmers care about the health and well-being of their animals and, as a result, foster conditions which are low stress, humane and allow for the healthful upbringing of these animals.
Family farmers additionally maintain beautiful spaces on which animals can play, graze and socialize in ways that have been critical to animals’ proper development throughout history, as well as the lore and beauty of the United States. Don’t we all remember from our childhood that beautiful, peaceful drive on America’s back roads, through the country’s farming & pastureland communities? Well…while family farmers are around & successful, these lands remain preserved in this way. In turn these communities maintain a real fabric and authenticity, with the farmers providing a willing market for local community goods and services - another huge bonus for the environment!
This specialty beef is flown-in fresh directly from Uruguay. This beef comes from Black Angus cattle which are born and raised on small family farms, all of which are independently certified organic by the USDA. Further all cattle are subject to a comprehensive tracking and traceability program to ensure proper record-keeping and humane treatment of all animals.
These cattle roam freely on open pastures throughout their entire lives, living off the land and eating a 100% grass & forage diet. This terrain is never treated with synthetic herbicides or pesticides. Further these cattle are never, ever given any antibiotics, hormones or steroids.
This beef is exceptionally low in calories, fat & cholesterol but quite rich in heart-healthy Omega-3 fatty acids & antioxidants.
Our hand-selected Prime Black Angus Beef has the same wonderful attributes as our Premium category of Specialty Beef. These cattle are solely cared for & raised on small family farms in the USA.
The quality of these cuts is readily apparent from the extremely high intramuscular fat content, which particularly lends itself to rare & medium-rare preparations. It is exceptionally tender & juicy with a wonderful, well-marbled fat profile which creates extreme succulence & wonderful flavor. This beef is guaranteed to not disappoint even the most discerning of palates.
These Black Angus cattle are born on small family farms in the USA & humanely raised in low-stress environments. They are exclusively fed a 100% vegetarian diet. All farmers are extremely conscious of sustainability and every effort is made to raise these animals in an environmentally conscious manner.

These lamb are born & raised on small family farms in the USA. All farmers have made a full commitment to sustainable farming practices. These lamb are never, ever given any antibiotics, hormones or steroids. They are pasture-raised & grain-finished on lands that are free of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. All cuts are always fresh, never frozen, & hand-selected for rich marbling, exceptional tenderness & high-quality flavor.
*On occasion antibiotics may be administered to our veal calves solely with a veterinary prescription.
These calves are born & raised on small family farms in the USA & fully traceable. All farmers have made a full commitment to sustainable farming practices. These calves are never tethered or crated. They are raised humanely in small groups of 4 or 5 for socialization, with space to play & recreate easily. These calves are milk-fed & no hormones or steroids are ever administered to them. This veal is always fresh, never frozen, and offers incredible flavor, tender texture & consistent quality of the finest magnitude - think of it as a lighter-tasting beef delicacy!
This is our conventional category of chicken and turkey but, as you will soon see, there is nothing regular about these birds. All chickens and turkeys are raised humanely, in low-stress environments, on small, local family farms. These chickens and turkeys are never, ever caged but rather roam about freely within large houses. All farms are independently monitored for animal welfare and environmental consciousness. Any farm that does not maintain an exemplary rating is dropped from our program. These chickens and turkeys are only fed a 100% vegetarian diet and are never, ever treated with antibiotics, growth hormones or steroids. They are always fresh, never frozen. These farms have won multiple awards for best-tasting poultry in the USA.
Our organic line of chickens and turkeys are locally raised on small family farms in rural Pennsylvania and never, ever caged. These farms are part of a landscape of rolling hills in an area of great natural beauty. All birds are allowed to free-roam and have unfettered access to beautiful outside pastures with green timothy and orchard grasses abundantly present. No pesticides or herbicides are ever in use on these farms. In addition these farms are subject to consistent, rigorous inspections and certified organic by the USDA.
These birds are only fed a 100% certified organic vegetarian diet (GMO free) and are never, ever treated with antibiotics, growth hormones or steroids. They have a wonderful flavor profile and are delicious in every preparation.
Our Pekin ducklings are humanely raised in upstate New York by dedicated family farmers and never, ever caged. These ducklings are allowed to free-roam and have unfettered access to green pastures which are never treated with pesticides or herbicides. These “happy” ducklings are only fed a 100% vegetarian diet and are never, ever given antibiotics, growth hormones or steroids.
The American Pekin duckling is widely prized for its extremely tasty & tender meat. While many types of ducklings have, over time, become leaner with a much less robust flavor profile, these Pekin ducklings, direct descendants of the original “immigrant” Pekins of the 1870’s from China, continue to possess the full-bodied flavor & versatile fat profile generally prized in specialty, artisanal duckling meat.
